Listening for His Voice Matters

Listening for His Voice Matters

My Canadian cousin was here in Austin last week so I missed seeing him because Carl and I were on our honeymoon. We made it home late Sunday night and early Monday morning we were both headed to the election polls where we serve in this Early Voting election process. So, we never could connect with my cousin. He’ll be back to Austin soon when we’ll get to connect then.

But, let’s talk a minute about “my well” that I spoke about yesterday. My “well” happens to go with me. Because I can drink there of my Lord’s living water, at a moment’s notice I can offer living waters to others. I think I might bear a striking resemblance of Him and His character to others because it has paid off in ways I never could have imagined.

When I came into the election center on Monday, many of my co-workers congratulated Carl’s and my marriage. They were there last year when they noticed the “sparkles” in our eyes for each other. Those sparkles had everything to do with Whose we are and being His light and life to others. I know it was a “God” set-up and here we are a year later getting to tell our story.

I am not advising anyone to volunteer to be an election worker to find their true love, but our testimony holds true that because we were being representatives of our faith by serving in a capacity that our country needs, we showed up and measured up for a divine connection.

When I voted on Monday, I gave thanks for the opportunity to vote because our votes matter. By the way, Texans, you can early vote right through to November 3rd. Election day is November 7th. Outside of Texas, check your state’s early voting times.

I was pleased to see the happy faces of so many voting early. I met some really fine people and none of us were discussing our political persuasions. We were all pleased with the opportunity to vote on a beautiful, sunshine-filled day. At least we were all united and in common on that!

Because my morals and values are so closely tied to my Christian faith and what God’s Word says, how can I not vote on what matters. Voting confirms my commitment to stand-up for those morals and values.

If I don’t vote I shouldn’t complain or whine about anything that’s going on in our community, our county, our state and country. I am a professing Christian so my primary voting guide is the Bible. I do my best to trust in my tightness with God and His Word: “My sheep know my voice”, and that I’ll hear THAT voice and vote according to what I hear.

I urge you to live a life of service. It has certainly made a difference in our lives and the lives of others. Who knows? If you are looking for a divine set-up — just maybe it will happen when you least expect it — right where you love and serve others, too!
