Living in God’s Presence Is a Choice
God’s presence isn’t earned by checking off spiritual to-do lists. It’s not about logging enough prayer minutes or memorizing enough Scripture. It’s not a reward for spiritual gold stars. It’s not about earning at all.
It’s about turning our eyes upon Jesus — looking full in His glorious face. And the things of earth will go strangely dim – in the light of His glory and grace. I love that old song.
When we say, “I need to get into God’s presence,” we’re forgetting a beautiful truth. We’re already in it. If Christ lives in us — and He does — then His presence isn’t distant or hard to reach. It’s here — right now.
But here’s the catch: we don’t always live like we’re in His presence. Why? Because we’re not always turned toward Him. We’re too busy checking emails, chasing to-do lists, or binge-watching the next “just one more episode.” (Guilty!)
Living in God’s presence is like adjusting our spiritual posture. It’s saying, “Lord, I see You. I hear You. I’m turning my heart toward You.” It’s whispering His name when the kids are arguing, the traffic’s ridiculous, or our soul just feels blah.
It’s not about climbing a holy mountain. It’s about tilting our heads in His direction.
The Message Bible says in Ephesians 3:20:
“God can do anything, you know — far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!”
What I’ve learned is the more we turn toward Him, the more we recognize what He’s already doing. His nudges. His peace. His quiet invitation to trust. That little aha — we know it had to be Him Who did that!
So, let’s get practical. What if we paused today — just a few times — and said:
“Jesus, what are You doing right now?”
“Holy Spirit, help me see what You see.”
“Father, I’m turning toward You.”
That’s it. That’s living in His presence.
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being present. With Him. Because He’s already here.
We don’t earn our way into God’s presence. We turn our hearts toward Him. He’s already there, waiting. Go ahead. Experience it.
Oh how sweet it is to know that we know we are in His presence – right here.. Right now!
