Living on the Light Side

Living on the Light Side

Our neighborhood is well-lit—motion sensors flicker on whenever someone walks by. It’s a comforting reminder of how light dispels darkness, both literally and spiritually.

After the Christmas season time-out, our Women’s Wednesday Night Bible Study is well underway at our church. It gives me so much joy to be in a group of women of all ages, all backgrounds and mostly — all loving Jesus with all our hearts. The truth is we crave His bright light in our lives. The study book for this series is entitled “Shine — Being His Light in Darkness”.

If ever we needed the bright light of our Lord in our lives, it is now. With so much darkness in our world, who better to amp up our lights, than those of us who know the Source of light.

Remember the Star Wars episodes where we witnessed the epic battles between the “Light Side” and the “Dark Side”? It sure brings to mind the forces of good and evil.

From the dawn of time, light and darkness have been at odds. In Genesis, God declared, “Let there be light,” and creation burst forth in brilliance. Yet, darkness crept in when Adam and Eve listened to the enemy’s whispers, shattering their fellowship with God.

The apostle John writes, “God is light; in Him, there is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:5-7).

Walking in God’s light transforms us, but lest we put on our armor of truth and righteousness — jealousy, bitterness, anger, or fear — can dim His light in us.

We’re still in this first month of the year — so, it’s the perfect time to sweep out the dark places in our hearts. As we open ourselves to God’s healing and empowering light, let’s declare with the psalmist, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1).

With God’s light in us, we’ll never have to question which side we’re on. No force of darkness can stand against the One who calms our fears and fills us with peace.

May THE Force — God’s eternal Light Source — be with you!
