May Jesus Be Seen in Me — In Spite of Me

May Jesus Be Seen in Me — In Spite of Me

A dear friend shared words with me that stopped me in my tracks: “May Jesus be seen in me, in spite of me.” Isn’t that the truth?

Because let’s be honest, sometimes “me” gets in the way. My impatience can flare up quicker than my smile. My opinion can jump out of my mouth before kindness has a chance to catch up. My humanness — that stubborn “self” — loves to fight for center stage.

But what if people didn’t walk away impressed by me at all? What if instead they walked away transformed by the Christ in me?

Paul wrote it so clearly in Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” That’s the goal — less of me, more of Him. I don’t want others to see Donna’s best attempts at patience or kindness (believe me, that’s a shaky foundation some days). I want them to see Christ’s love, peace, hope, and mercy flowing through me — even when my “self” wants to hog the spotlight.

Think about it: Jesus didn’t win hearts because He had perfect hair, smooth speeches, or a social media following. He won hearts because His life radiated the Father’s love. People didn’t just hear about grace — they experienced it in His presence. That’s the kind of light I want to carry into a room.

So how do we get there? By daily surrender. By whispering, “Lord, less of me, more of You.” By laughing at ourselves when we stumble, and then choosing to get back up with God’s help. By remembering that the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead is alive and well in us (Romans 8:11).

At the end of the day, my prayer is simple: may people not remember my witty comeback or my to-do list victories. May they remember a moment of grace, a glimpse of mercy, a taste of hope. Not Donna’s version — but Christ’s.

Because when Jesus shines through us, the world doesn’t just see us… it sees Him.

Less of me. More of Him. May others not be impressed by me, but transformed by Christ in me.
