Oh Give Thanks to the Lord
Thanksgiving Day and Week often turns our heads and hearts to super sales, football, lots of yummy food, family get-togethers, games we’ll play, stories we’ll tell. And quite often, we base our gratitude on those tangible things we have in our life, like the car we drive, the home we live in, the job we have, the clothes we wear, the trip we’re taking, the food we eat, and the friends and family we have.
But very often, we fail to give adequate THANKSGIVING and PRAISE to the One Who deserves our thanks — NOT for the things, but because He is God, our Creator and His lovingkindness is forever. Consider what the Bible says:
1 Chronicles 16:8, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples.”
Psalm 100:4, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving; And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.”
Psalm 9:1, “I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders.”
Psalm 69:30, “I will praise the name of God with song; And magnify Him with thanksgiving.”
Psalm 95:2, “Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”
Psalm 118:1, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
Yes, it is essential to thank God for ALL His abundant blessings to us. May this Thanksgiving be one of sincere gratitude to the ONE who deserves ALL the honor, praise, and thanksgiving.
