Oh Happy Day!

I started my morning in a way I know I shouldn’t—scrolling through the newsfeeds. What did I see? Oh, just the usual elephants and donkeys charging into their political warzones. Ugh! It had me thinking, “Wow, what a sad time we’re living in.”

But then — I caught myself. I’m a child of God! I don’t need to let all this noise define my mood. No way, Jose’! My God is still running the show! As if on cue, the phrase “Happy Days” popped into my mind like a divine reminder. Yes! God was doing some mind-renewing right then and there.

I started humming the old tune, “Happy days are here again, the skies above are clear again, so let’s sing a song of cheer again…” And you know what? That song was written to celebrate the end of World War I, a time when peace felt so far away. But peace came.

Then — cue the flashback — my heart started belting out “Oh Happy Day!” A song that’ll always have a special place, especially after seeing Sister Act. (If you know, you know!) I’ve even got my own memories of singing it with the Masters IV Quartet, bringing the house down with joy.

Here’s the thing: The world today? It looks a lot like chaos and confusion. Peace and happiness might feel like distant memories, especially when we flip on the news. But—God. Nothing is impossible with Him! He’s the ultimate peacekeeper, joy-giver, and life-lifter.

The truth is, what’s happening in the world doesn’t hold a candle to the happiness God gives. Psalm 144:15 reminds us “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!” And we, dear friends, have a joy that transcends the daily grind. Thanks to Jesus, we’ve got peace and harmony forever!

There’s no denying it—life throws curveballs. But with God in control, we’re never out of control. We serve a problem-solving, grace-giving, all-forgiving, absolutely amazing God! So, why aren’t we the happiest people on earth?

When we get our hearts wrapped around the incredible message of Jesus—that God sent His only Son so we could live in freedom—we should be singing from the rooftops! Oh Happy Day! When Jesus washed our sins away, He gave us every reason to smile, dance, and sing it out.

So, let’s keep that joy alive! No matter what’s happening around us, we’ve got a reason to celebrate every single day. Oh Happy Day, indeed!
