Oh, Yes, We Matter

Oh, Yes, We Matter

My Bryson turns 17 today. He is my youngest grandchild and has been such a bright light in my life for these 17 years. He represents the finale of grandchildren. I’m okay with it because my life has been so full of so much joy for so many years that I am full to overflowing of gratitude.

Laughter — that is one of the greatest gifts via my Bryson. He has kept me on my toes with more laughter than I could cope with. He has an extra special place in my heart. God put “icing on the cake” when he came along.

He lights up the room when he walks in. He’s hilarious — without trying, and best of all, we share a special love for each other. Notice the head-hug he gave me on Tuesday night when we celebrated his 17th and the lovely hair rearrangement after!

Bryson is already considering where he’ll be going to college. Carl thought he’d help him out with his Alma Mater, Texas Tech. He gave him a black bag sporting the TT logo, along with TT golf balls, mug and rally rag. His speech went like this: “Bryson, I understand you are looking at universities that have strong engineering programs. One of the most outstanding universities with engineering departments is Texas Tech.”

“Lubbock is in the center of everything you might want to enjoy. Five hours to the west is skiing in Ruidoso, NM and five hours to the east is entertainment and shopping in Dallas. When you study hard and score well on the SAT, along with my legacy, you can become a Red Raider.”

Then rushing in the room was Steve, a family friend, who graduated University of Texas and gives his spill and the UT hoodie. That’s when Carl mentioned “Not everyone can get into Tech so that’s why they’d attend UT!” Oh my!

Today is Bryson’s big day. Nana’s chocolate cake has been delivered to the birthday man. He matters to us. We had the “special plate” for him on Tuesday — each of us sharing why he is so special to us.

Aw! Celebration of Life! I’m thinking about the most important thing we can do for others is to celebrate them and help them to know THEY MATTER. Why does it matter? Because it matters to our Creator.

He specifically planned each of us individually and uniquely with the funny little quirky smile we might have, the color of our hair and eyes, and the freckles on our nose. We are so special that God’s eyes are on us ALL the time. He knows everything about us.

We are God’s hand-designed treasures. He thinks about us ALL THE TIME. Shouldn’t we think about others in a way that God uses our arms to hug them and our mouths to tell them how special and beautiful they are? After all, they are our sisters and our brothers in this royal family of God.

God masterfully and lovingly planned us and created us. We are all so special to Him. God’s workmanship is marvelous. How precious it is, to realize that He is always thinking about us. We are all packed full of potential and possibilities — so while celebrating Bryson today, we get to celebrate you and me too!
