Ever feel like your spiritual battery is running low? You’re not alone. I’ve sung “This little light of mine; I’m gonna let it shine” more times than I can count. But some days, I feel like I need jumper cables just to make it to lunch.
Life has a way of draining us. A negative comment, a bad medical report, a flat tire, or just one of those “everything’s going wrong” mornings can pull the plug on joy. What begins as a little leak of energy can turn into a full-on blackout — the kind that trips the breaker on our peace, patience, and kindness.
But God knew we’d need a backup source. The Apostle Paul gave us the secret:
“Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure… children of God… among whom you shine like stars in the sky.” (Philippians 2:14–15)
That’s how our lights stay on — not by denying the hard stuff, but by refusing to let complaining dim our joy. Imagine the difference if we swapped our grumbling for gratitude. Our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and even the grocery store checkout line could feel lighter.
And here’s the best part: we don’t have to manufacture the glow. We have an eternal backup source. God’s Word recharges us when life drains us. Ephesians 5:8 reminds us, “You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
How? By staying connected to Him. Reading Scripture, praying, worshiping, and surrounding ourselves with faith-filled people who keep our batteries fully charged. And when life’s “stuff” hits — because it will — His Spirit gives us the strength to shine anyway.
Sometimes the greatest sermon we’ll ever preach is silent: a calm spirit when the world’s in chaos, peace in the storm, joy in disappointment. People notice. They’ll wonder how we keep glowing when life is hard. Before long, they’ll want the Source too.
So let’s stay plugged into the ultimate power supply — God Himself. His Word isn’t just encouragement; it’s electricity for weary hearts. Shine on, friend. You’ve got backup that never runs out.
Life drains us. God charges us.
