Our Greatest Gift Showed Up
Happy Birthday, Jesus, and Merry Christmas to you and yours! Maybe you, like me, spent many hours getting to this day – planning, cooking, baking, making gift lists, shopping, planning the Christmas meal and creating a Christmas Wonderland in our homes.
We attended Christmas parties, programs, musicals, and two family get togethers as we embraced the season with all its sights and sounds.
At the time you may be reading this blog, Carl and I will be making our trek over the river and through the woods – rather, over the highways and byways to East Texas to SHOW UP to our Wallace Family bearing boxes of treasures for them to open.
But all the Christmas celebrations pale in comparison to the BABY REVEAL! It’s a BOY! BEST NEWS EVER – God showed up this day as a cuddly, beautiful, adorable baby boy Who carried heaven’s scent all over Him. Today we celebrate the day He showed up as the greatest gift EVER!
Never say “God doesn’t relate to me and my situations!” Oh, contraire! He knows. He came from heaven’s portals to live as one of us. He experienced every emotion, every disappointment, every fear, and every high and low that we experience. Yet, without sin. The sinless One showed us how we can live an overcoming life, too! Oh, GREAT God incarnate!
God became a baby like us earthlings. Maybe, this Christmas morning you’re having your traditional family breakfast and opening Santa’s presents and seeing what he left everyone in their stockings. Santa’s cookie plate only has a few crumbs left. After all, he gets quite hungry on his exhausting journey.
Oh, the joy of hearing children’s laughter and excitement today! If your children are grown, enjoy the sweet memories of past Christmases. If you are missing children and loved ones today, then spend Christmas with God’s Son praising and thanking Him for becoming one of us.
Christmas and the tangible gifts we received from friends and loved ones are temporary. But the gifts that heaven brings us are eternal.
We know the end of the Christmas Story. Eventually, that sweet little baby boy grew up and asked for this “cup” to pass from Him, but it didn’t. Jesus became EVERYTHING we would ever need, or want, wrapped in one package. That sweet baby boy eventually died for our sins on a cross, just like He said He would.
Don’t stop there because He rose from the grave on the third day, just like He said He would. So that’s not really the end of the story – it’s just the beginning of our future where we will spend eternity with Him, just like He said we would.
Let’s spend today celebrating the fact that the baby in the manger was God’s perfect gift to us. I hope you will receive all that Jesus was born to give. May your Christmas be blessed with faith, hope and love. God’s greatest gift is love. “For God so loved you that He gave you and me His one and only Son.” (John 3:16)
God loves you so much and so do I! Merry Christmas and Merry Forever — loving, serving and living for Him….and with Him FOREVER! Joy to the world! The Lord has come!
