Our Secret Place

Our Secret Place

February 16, 2025 Off By Donna Wuerch Noble

Carl and I are still in Cabo, nestled in my children’s gorgeous home— our sanctuary by the sea. Since 2010, this place has been my refuge, a sacred retreat where God’s peace washes over me like the waves on the shore.

After my late husband passed just before Thanksgiving that year, my children insisted I come with them here. I hesitated, but they knew what my heart needed before I did. I’m so grateful I came.

Cabo became our family’s place of restoration, so much so that my children built a home here. Now, they have gifted Carl and me a week in this breathtaking haven, where God’s presence is as tangible as the ocean breeze. And on this Valentine’s week, what better time to celebrate life, love, and the unwavering faithfulness of God?

We boarded a ship bound for the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas. This stunning three-story granite formation, El Arco, stands at the very tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, an area known as Land’s End. For centuries, explorers and fishermen have used this landmark as their guiding North Star. It was only fitting that Carl and I wanted to see it at sunset — the sky painted in hues of gold and crimson, the water shimmering in reverence.

As we stood at the front of the boat, we witnessed a young man drop to one knee, proposing to the love of his life. What a sweet moment — an echo of love, of promises made and journeys begun.

It reminded us that love endures, life carries on, and God’s blessings continue to multiply, no matter where we are — whether at Land’s End or at the start of each new day.

Carl now knows my “secret place” — el lugar secreto. But long before Cabo, before the ocean breezes and towering rock formations, God Himself was and is my ultimate refuge.

Psalm 91:1-2 declares, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!’”

We don’t need an Arch or an ocean view to find His peace. No matter the chaos, He offers us rest. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Today, as always, I return to el lugar secreto. I press on, cherishing love, embracing peace, and choosing to live unafraid. Won’t you join us there?
