Pentecost Sunday Blessings

Pentecost Sunday Blessings

June 8, 2025 Off By Donna Wuerch Noble

Easter was powerful – our church was packed to the brim. It was resurrection joy, full pews, glorious worship. We celebrated the risen Savior with everything we had… and then?

We exhaled. We downshifted. We moved on. But this day (50 days after Easter) is a really big deal!

Pentecost Sunday commemorates the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and those in the Upper Room.

Pentecost fulfills Jesus’ promise when He said: “I must go away but I will send the Holy Spirit to you!” (John 16:5-15) and it launches the large-scale spreading of the Gospel.

Pentecost Sunday is the PAYOFF! It’s the moment the promises of Jesus came rushing in like a mighty wind. The Holy Spirit didn’t just descend on that Upper Room filled with anticipation and joy — He ignited the birth of the Church.

“When the day of Pentecost came… they were all together in one place.” (Acts 2:1)
What followed was miraculous:
Tongues of fire.
Languages understood.
Hearts pierced.
Souls saved.
And a Church awakened.

Just before Jesus ascended to heaven, He said these words to His disciples: “When the Holy Spirit comes to you, you shall receive POWER.” (Acts 1:8) How awesome is that?

Peter is a great example of how God turns a fearful, impulsive coward who denied even knowing Jesus, into a powerful, bold and courageous witness for Christ. It was because of Pentecost!

Acts 2:41 records that Peter spoke to the crowd and 3,000 people were baptized. Power-less to power-full! And that’s what Holy Spirit does for us, too!

My story is very similar to Peter’s. I was weak, timid, and afraid but because of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in my life, I have weathered and overcome many storms. The Holy Spirit gave me the confidence to share the Good News boldly and unafraid.

Acts 2 describes what Pentecost looked like: sharing possessions, eating together with glad hearts, worshiping daily, and meeting needs with radical generosity.

Jesus’ resurrection wasn’t meant to be a one-day celebration. It was meant to be the spark of a Spirit-filled movement.

“Repent and be baptized… and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

That gift is still moving today.
Pentecost reminds us: we are not alone. We are empowered. Sent. Called to love across lines, to share generously, and to live differently.

Let’s be the Church that Pentecost created — diverse, Spirit-filled, united in mission, and deeply committed to one another.

This is the life we were made for – so why aren’t we living it? Let’s be the game-changers in a world of chaos, hate and separation! Let’s be THE ONES who step up and be who God called us to be.

Won’t you pray this prayer with me today in celebration of Pentecost Sunday and Holy Spirit Who lives in you? It’s simply acknowledging His presence and His power that is available to you today.

“Dear Jesus, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, welcome into my life. I know You are living in me. Today I acknowledge that You are my helper, my counselor, my comforter, and my peace. I ask for Your gifts and fruit to be evident in my life.

Lord, please baptize me like those in the Upper Room. I ask You for the same radical transformation as the disciples had when their fear, anxiety, timidity and concern was turned to empowered people of love, faith, boldness, and courage. Come Holy Spirit!
