Prayer – As Natural As Breathing
Seems like God has me on a Prayer Enlightenment Journey, and it’s popping up everywhere, just like those white cars you start noticing the minute you buy one. I get it, Lord, I hear you loud and clear. Apparently, it’s time to amp up my communication with God!
I’ll be straight with you, I’ve never considered myself as a “prayer warrior.” Sure, I know the benefits.. My mom was a champ at it. She’d wake up at 4 am every morning to pray fervently for her children and grandchildren.
When she passed away, my siblings and I felt like we had inherited her early morning prayer duty. Let’s just say I tossed that responsibility back faster than a boomerang. 4 am prayer duty? Thanks, but no thanks.
But now, it feels like prayer is chasing me down. It’s like God has issued a divine memo: “Donna, it’s time to get serious about prayer.” And you know what? I’m finally ready to listen. I’m not just praying out of habit anymore; I’m praying with purpose and intentionality.
It’s become my way to focus, gain perspective, and deepen my faith and hope. Plus, it’s a comforting reminder that God’s got everything under control, so why should I stress about anything?
I remember hearing Kenneth Copeland say, “I don’t pray for more than 15 minutes at a time, but I don’t go 15 minutes without praying!” The Apostle Paul chimed in too, in 1 Thessalonians 5:17: “Pray without ceasing!”
I’m sure that neither Kenneth OR Paul means that we should be praying non-stop. I believe it means it is about living in a constant state of God-awareness, carrying that connection with us all the time.
Prayer becomes a lifestyle when we recognize that God is always with us, involved in our thoughts and actions. So why not acknowledge Him all the time?
God’s been dropping these little nuggets of wisdom on me, and I feel compelled to share them. This one’s about making prayer as natural as breathing.
Think about it—we don’t have to remind ourselves to breathe; it’s automatic. And just like holding our breath isn’t sustainable, trying to limit our moments with God leaves us spiritually gasping for air.
We need His presence constantly, and He’s always with us, so let’s discard the idea that we don’t have time to pray. Talking to God should be as easy and natural as chatting with a close friend.
So here’s the nugget: Embrace prayer as a natural, life-sustaining practice. Let it become as effortless and essential as breathing. God’s right there, ready for every conversation, every breath, every moment. Why don’t we take a deep breath and dive in?
