Red Skies in the Evening and Morning
Day 39 of Photo Inspirations – Red Skies — Evening AND Morning
I took this first photo of the Western sky, last Thursday evening. It had an eerie, stormy look to it, but I found out it meant just the opposite. I took the second one — red skies, this morning. God sure has a way of telling us “Good morning” AND “Good evening”!
“Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning”. Ever heard that old tale before? It’s an ancient rhyme that mariners used, and still use today.
“Red sky at night, sailors delight.” A red sky at night usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the West. Basically, good weather will follow. Those dark clouds were teasing me.
And — “Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.” A red sunrise can mean that a high pressure system (good weather) has already passed, and that indicates that a storm system (low pressure) may be moving to the East. A morning sky that is a deep, fiery red can indicate that there is high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain could be on its way.
Isn’t that something? No need for that fancy high tech weather equipment – we can just check out the skies! In the Bible, Jesus was having an exchange with the Pharisees and Sadducees and they were asking for a sign. In Matthew 26:2-3, Jesus said, “When in evening, you say, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering.” All the way back to the days of the Bible – they had no special meteorological skills. They knew how to predict the weather.
I’m not professing to be your weather girl or have a bent toward scientific phenomena by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ll admit that my little “photo inspiration” quests definitely have me noticing things that I never gave thought to before. Obviously, Jesus was pointing out to those guys that they understood weather forecasting by the red skies – but they had no clue about the times on earth that they were living in – that the Messiah was with them – and they just didn’t get it.
As I continue to be inspired by photos, and the messages that are accompanying them, I’m becoming more and more interested, hungry, and inquisitve about God’s love for me — and you know what, that love is getting more profound with each new day. I see Him in the skies, I hear Him in the breeze, I feel Him in my heart…..and I know — He is teaching me His ways beyond what I ever knew before. And, by knowing Him, I will always have “inside information” about my todays and tomorrows — no matter what the weather is going to be OR anything else that comes along. Nothing to fear — and everything I need to live in peace and victory in each new day! #RedSkies #NoFear #GodIsLove #HeLovesMeAndYou
