Shut THAT Door!
Years ago, my daughter dated a hockey player who had a comeback for everything. As I headed out the door one day, he shouted, “Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!”
I laughed then — and now, all these years later, I think we all need to shout that at the ugly lies trying to move into our heads!
Remember the old chant? “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” We said it, but we never bought it. Words can hurt — especially the ones whispered when we’re already down, doubting, or doing our best.
Whether it’s a cruel comment, a painful memory, or that inner critic who just won’t quit — those words can linger like an uninvited guest. “You’re not enough.” “You’ll fail again.” “You’re too old.” “Your kids? A hot mess.”
Let’s do something TODAY about those lies! Today’s the day we shut. that. door.
Shut the front door, the back door, the side door, the garage door — and the attic window while we’re at it! Don’t even crack it open for doubt, fear, shame, or comparison. And while we’re at it, let’s install a heavenly security system and change the spiritual locks!
Proverbs 4:23 says, “More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it.”
The same way Fort Knox protects its vault — with a 20-ton, drill-proof door — we guard the treasure of our thoughts. Because the enemy of our souls would love to break in and convince us we’re done for.
But we have the Master Key. We get to choose what we let in. And if it doesn’t sound like truth, hope, faith, or grace — it’s gotta go.
Don’t let fear, lies or doubt sneak in and take up space in your mind. Let’s guard our thoughts like Fort Knox and let the truth of God’s Word be the only voice that gets a key.
Let’s live in the freedom of what God says about us. Victorious. Loved. Chosen. Enough. We are HIS! So — “SHUT THAT DOOR!”
