Sleepy Head! Wake Up, Giddy Up and Shine Bright!

Sleepy Head! Wake Up, Giddy Up and Shine Bright!

I’ve always been an early riser, with an inner alarm clock set for 5 a.m. sharp. It’s truly a blessing, because the “giddy up” gets me posting that day’s blog.

It’s my heavenly assignment. And, for my early-bird readers — hopefully, they can enjoy their morning coffee with a fresh dose of encouragement.

But here’s my confession: by mid-afternoon, I’m ready for a little power nap. Just twenty minutes of rest can do wonders for this eager writer’s energy and focus.

It’s one thing to get sleepy in the natural — it’s another to live sleepy in the spiritual. Too many of us are wandering through life in a half-groggy state. We’re lulled into complacency, shrugging our shoulders with a “whatever will be, will be” attitude.

We tune out the news, shut off our phones, and sometimes even close our eyes to the pain around us. It’s as if the enemy has slipped us a sedative, and we’re too drowsy to notice.

That’s why I believe Heaven is sounding a wake-up call. Isaiah 60:1 shouts it loud: “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.” That’s better than any double espresso! If we don’t wake up and shine brighter, the darkness only gets darker.

Think about Jesus. The Gospels don’t say much about Him napping — not because He didn’t try, but because people always needed Him. His invitation to “Follow Me” wasn’t a call to stay cozy under the covers. It was (and still is) a summons to get up, shake off the grogginess, and light up the world with His love.

We have a mission of love, kindness and encouragement to pass along!

So, here’s my prayer for today: Lord, thank You for waking us up. Give us boldness to shine, courage to love, and strength to be light in someone’s darkness. May our lives be a refreshing drink for a thirsty soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Feeling spiritually sleepy? The world needs us wide-eyed and shining. It’s time to wake up and shine bright!
