Spy Wednesday — When Betrayal Met the Light

Spy Wednesday — When Betrayal Met the Light

It’s called Spy Wednesday for a reason.

This was the day Judas Iscariot — one of the twelve, a disciple handpicked by Jesus — made a secret deal with the chief priests. Thirty silver coins. The price of a slave. The weight of betrayal.

Last Sunday night, we saw “The Chosen — Season 5, Episode 3” — and the moment Judas took that pouch of coins, knowing it meant the Lord’s arrest and eventual death. It nearly broke my heart. How could he? How could anyone betray that Man — the One who had loved him, taught him, forgave him, and welcomed him at the table?

The scene left a lump in my throat. It wasn’t just historical betrayal; it was personal. Because we’ve all had our Judas moments. And Jesus still loves and forgives us.

Spy Wednesday reminds us that sometimes the deepest wounds come from those closest to us. Jesus, in His divinity, knew. He wasn’t surprised. And yet, He didn’t expose Judas in front of the others. He didn’t lash out. He didn’t stop loving.
That’s what perfect love looks like.

Jesus still washed Judas’ feet. Still broke bread with him. Still called him “friend” — even as the shadows closed in.

Maybe you know betrayal, too. Maybe someone you trusted let you down. Maybe you’ve let yourself down. But hear this: Wednesday is not the end of the story.

The enemy thought he was gaining ground that day — but the cross was always part of the plan. What was meant for evil, God would turn for our eternal good.

The same Jesus who was sold out would soon rise up.

So yes, Spy Wednesday is heavy. But it’s also holy. It’s a reminder that no betrayal is beyond redemption. No pain is outside God’s reach. And no shadow can dim the light of the risen Son.

Hope springs eternal — because Jesus chose the cross, knowing it would lead us home.

Keep walking. The LIGHT is on the way.
