Still Standing – No Matter What
It was just a silly moment in church — a restless little boy, a worn-out mama, and a battle of wills that felt familiar to every parent in the room.
He kept bouncing up and down on the pew, clearly auditioning for the Olympic trampoline team. After four stern warnings and the look, mama finally got him to sit still.
But when she glanced over a few minutes later, he had the biggest grin plastered on his face.
“What are you smiling about?” she whispered.
And with the grit of a miniature champion, he whispered back,
“I might be sitting down on the outside… but inside, I’m standing up!”
I laughed when I first heard it and realized that’s the way I can be a conqueror. For the little guy – it wasn’t just a mischievous moment — that’s a spiritual truth.
That spiritual truth is one we can all settle in with! Yes, the enemy of our souls may play havoc with our minds and spirits – but one thing he can’t do – is our determination to be a champion – no matter what!
Because life, like that mama, will try to make us sit down. Sit down in discouragement. Sit down in fear. Sit down because “that’s just the way it is now.” But the Spirit of the Living God inside us? He doesn’t sit down. Not ever.
In the days when I felt knocked down, worn thin, or just too tired to stand on my own, I didn’t keep going because I was strong. I kept going because He stood up in me.
When my prayers were whispers, the Spirit interceded.
When anxiety pressed in, He wrapped me in peace.
When hope slipped through my fingers, He handed me heaven’s anchor.
When life threw curveballs, He didn’t just catch them — He knocked them out of the park.
Jesus said, “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
So, when the world says: “sit this one out,” I say — stand anyway. Stand in grace. Stand in truth. Stand in quiet confidence because the Spirit is standing in you.
You may be knocked down, but you’re not out. With the Spirit of God alive in you — you’re still standing. Keep going. Heaven’s cheering you on!
