The Reagan Movie

Thursday night, we had the privilege of watching the Reagan movie, and let me tell you—it was outstanding. The film vividly portrays a man of great faith, conviction, determination, and resilience — qualities that carried him through his entire life.

The movie starts with a no-frills look at Reagan’s childhood, quickly moving through his acting career and his growing disdain for communism. His time as president of the Screen Actors Guild is covered with the same depth as his personal life — showcasing both a failed marriage and the fairy-tale love story with Nancy that inspired him to greatness.

Reagan’s journey from a popular California Governor to a legendary U.S. President is nothing short of inspiring. But it was the perfect partnership with Margaret Thatcher and Mikhail Gorbachev that truly stood out. Together, they worked to rid the world of the very real threat of World War III. Reagan’s strategy to defeat the Soviet Union without firing a single shot was nothing less than a brilliant chess match — culminating in the Strategic Defense Initiative.

Dennis Quaid magnificently recreates Reagan, capturing his debate moments, press gatherings, and State of the Union addresses with authenticity. There are wonderful, hilarious sound bites from many of his speeches. 

This is not some cheesy reimagining or propaganda piece; it’s as accurate as a documentary yet crafted for entertainment and inspiration.

The film ends with thunderous applause, as beautiful real moments of Reagan with Nancy, his cabinet, and his ranch are shown. Most of the audience stayed through the credits, laughing and shedding tears — a noble way to honor a truly great man. For those younger, it serves as a wonderful history lesson.

As we approach another election season, this film offers a timely reminder of what true leadership, faith, and determination look like. I encourage you to see it. Let it guide your thoughts and prayers as you consider the future of our nation.
