Water for the Body and Soul
We are on a water regimen. We already drink plenty, but this new health product we’re trying has us practically swimming from the inside out! With nighttime temperatures still freezing, it feels odd to chug water like it’s July, but hydration doesn’t take snow days.
Water is the lifeblood of our bodies — literally. It makes up about 60% of us and fuels every system. It flushes toxins, carries nutrients, and even keeps our throats and noses happy. Yet, when we skimp on water, even a little, dehydration sneaks in, draining our energy and making us feel sluggish. No matter the weather, our bodies need water to keep going strong.
But as vital as water is for our physical health, there’s another kind of thirst only living water can quench. Jesus told the woman at the well, “Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst again” (John 4:14). This wasn’t about H₂O but a deeper, soul-level satisfaction that can only come from God.
Isaiah 58:11 describes it perfectly: “You shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” That’s the kind of refreshing we all crave –not just for our bodies, but for our weary, thirsty souls.
Throughout history, people have searched high and low for a magic fountain to bring youth, happiness, or fulfillment. But those pursuits are as fleeting as a half-empty water bottle on a hot day. True satisfaction comes from the Giver of living water, Who offers us eternal peace, joy, and strength.
The woman at the well came for physical water but left with her heart and soul transformed, having met the Truth in the flesh. Her story reminds us that while H₂O hydrates the body, Jesus hydrates the heart, offering everlasting life.
So today, as you sip from your water bottle (because yes, you still need your two liters), remember to also take a long, refreshing drink of His living water. It’s the only source that truly satisfies.
Excuse me while I go refill my glass — for the body AND the soul!
