What are YOU Passionate About?

What are YOU Passionate About?

I was introduced to the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team at Aussies (a sports bar and restaurant in downtown Austin) a few weeks ago where we watched and cheered for them at their first game of the season. That’s where my husband and his youngest daughter would go to watch many Texas Tech games over the years, if they didn’t go to the game itself.

I was delightfully enamored by those Red Raider fans – decked out in their Red Raider apparel and while watching the game, if Tech did well, there would be shouts of RAIDER with an echo of POWER by the zealous fans. Yes, I joined them.

On Friday, we upped our “game”! We made it to Lubbock and our first stop was the sports store where Carl bought me a Texas Tech shirt and hat for yesterday’s game. I have bought into the enthusiasm with fans to cheer for their team. Carl’s daughter flew down yesterday to join us along with his brother and wife.

First, we went to the Tailgate Party preceding the game. I’ve been to many football games and if there’s one thing I get stoked about, it is getting caught up in the fans’ enthusiasm. We really wanted to root our team on – especially since their #1 quarterback broke his leg and is out for the season. Word had it that we would be easily defeated.

Honestly, if you’re still reading this blog, I understand if you’re not so passionate about football or any other sport. You may not be inclined to even want to continue reading this blog. BUT please don’t stop even though you don’t care one way or the other about who wins football games. But if you are an ardent fan of some team, you understand passion!

To bring my commentary about the game to a close, I will just say there were 60K fans in the stadium shouting “Raider! Power!” with “guns up” which were our thumb and first finger (pistol-like). And, in spite of the negative press commentating that Tech’s game would be a sure loss, they won 49-28. Yay for the Red Raiders!

Okay! Enough of that team spirit. Honestly, just about everything my family does — whether it’s a favorite football team, a business or charity we believe in, a heart for missions, celebrating a birthday and/or a special event, remembering the sweet things about our past, and mostly, our faith, our hearts for God and His Word — we are passionate! We live passion!

So, what are you passionate about? What gets you out of bed every morning? Counselors and motivational speakers, and even this fired-up gal, want to help you identify your “passion” — something you love to be doing with your life, the purpose that fires you with energy.

The single most important passion we should maintain is our personal relationship with God. That can be the X-Factor in our lives. Having Him as our CENTER, causes life-at-large to become our passion.

Our passion will energize us and not only will we become more alive emotionally, but the thoughts about our passion will give us energy. This is God’s way of moving us toward those people, roles or causes that are His created agenda for our lives. I am passionate about blogging. That is God’s will for my life. I know it. I believe it. What are you passionate about?
