What Do You Have as Reminders?
So I have several different and beloved crosses that my husband gave me. I wear them often – especially the one that was his. They are my “bumper stickers”. I want to be known as a Christian.
Seeing the cross, just might cause someone to ask me to pray with them about something. Those crosses hold me accountable for my daily actions. That sounds so weak. I shouldn’t need a bumper sticker because my actions should be the Fruit of the Spirit which are quite sufficient in recognizing God’s disciples.
So, if I had an “I am a Child of God” bumper sticker on my car, then I’d best be acting like I am one! Dear Lord, give me grace. I admitted to my grandson when I narrowly made it through the yellow light before it turned red, that I really need God’s mercy to help me with my driving impatience. I am serious. My name is Donna Wuerch and I have a need for driving patience.
On my home’s walls or furniture, are framed scriptures with peaceful scenes, a huge metal tree of life that reminds me of Epiphany Ranch in which their logo is the same tree of life. I have metal birds in flight and on canvas that remind me of Jesus’ example: “Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are?” (Matthew 6:26)
I have “Blessed” wall and table décor. I have a statute of Blessed Mother Mary holding her Christ child. And, I have the Holy Family statute that was given to my husband and I when we resaid our vows on our 35th anniversary. No, my home isn’t a shrine, but I like to think that it is my sacred space of daily encounters with my Lord.
You might be thinking: “This gal is a fanatic!” And you would be right! I am. My blogs and all these images serve as reminders of my mission. I am a crusader; a missionary; an ambassador; a radical “Jesus” believer!
Then there are the family photos and the photos of my husband and I – all reminders of God’s goodness and faithfulness, while also reminding me to pray for these people who I hold near and dear to my heart!
Throughout the Bible, the Lord gives example after example, usually in illustrated sermons. I like to think His BIG house in heaven is probably arrayed with our pictures and reels of our stories. He shows us how He proves His love for us in myriad ways throughout each day. We can trace His tender creativity throughout Scripture and in the Person of Jesus Christ. His is faithful love and He is so, so good!
Maybe, like me, you have relics, statutes, crosses, photos, and other items that are near and dear to your heart. They are reminders of Whose we are and Who is ours. Maybe we cannot physically see our Lord just yet, but when we surround ourselves with praise music, devotionals, religious teachings, attending church and/or Bible studies as well as our objects of affection, we continue to draw closer to THE ONE Who is always close to us.
I need all the help I can get to keep me walking the narrow path. All these reminders are like a powerful flood light that shines 24/7 on WHO IS the LIGHT of the World!
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12)
