What is God Like?

What is God Like?

This blog comes from reading this sweet story:
“A six-year-old girl was busy drawing a picture one day. Her teacher asked, “What are you drawing?” The little girl replied confidently, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” The teacher, a bit taken aback, said, “But nobody knows what God looks like!” The little girl kept drawing and replied, “They will in a minute.”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have that childlike faith and understanding of the nature and character of God? To know Him fully and His ways? Jesus said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).

In other words, if we want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. God made flesh. Thanks, Father God, for showing us what You look like!

The truth is God loves us passionately and unconditionally. No matter how many times we’ve messed up, we can always call out “Father God aka Papa aka Loving Father… HELP!” And when we call out for help, He embraces us like a loving father does a lost child.

In the story of the prodigal son, Jesus reveals God as a loving father. Picture this: The younger son demands his inheritance, basically saying, “Dad, I can’t wait for you to die. Give me my share now!”

The father, surprisingly, gives it to him. The son then squanders it all on wild living and ends up in misery. He finally comes to his senses, realizing even his father’s servants have it better than he does. So, he decides to return home and admit his mistakes.

Now, here’s the kicker: The father’s reaction is extraordinary. He doesn’t wait for the son to apologize or even get to the front porch. While the son is still a long way off, his father sees him, runs to him, and embraces him. No lectures, no “I told you so’s,” just pure joy and love. He welcomes him back with open arms and throws a celebration.

This story shows us God’s incredible love. No matter how far we stray, God is always ready to welcome us back with joy and celebration. Imagine the kind of party heaven throws every time one of us turns back to Him – it’s like the ultimate surprise party, with angels dancing and the heavenly choir singing at full volume!

So next time you feel lost or have wandered off the path, please know that God is there, watching and waiting with open arms, ready to throw the biggest celebration ever just for you. Now, that’s a picture of God worth drawing.
