When Real Isn’t Real (But Still Hilarious!)

When Real Isn’t Real (But Still Hilarious!)

Sunday afternoon was supposed to be a quiet one — me writing my next blog, Carl watching the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders game. I could hear him in the other room hollering, “You’ve GOT to see this!”

I thought, “Wow, it must be a nail-biter!” So I walked in, ready for a game-winning touchdown… only to find Carl glued to a Madden NFL video game simulation on YouTube! 😂 The graphics were so real — the same players, same plays, even the same uniforms. He was absolutely convinced it was the real deal!

Bless his heart — he was cheering, clapping, and totally invested. I hated to break the news, but when the “players” started moving like bobbleheads, we both burst into laughter. The real game was still in progress and the real Cowboys won! Yippee!

Later, I couldn’t help but think… isn’t that just like life sometimes? We get worked up over things that look real but aren’t — the what-ifs, the headlines, the fears that play out in our minds like bad re-runs. We worry about things that may never happen, replaying “games” that already ended in victory.

Romans 8:28 reminds us, “All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” That means even our simulated fears, our false alarms, our unnecessary stress — God can take it all and turn it for good.

So the next time you find yourself shouting at the screen of life — thinking it’s all falling apart — remember: God’ has the real remote. He knows the final score, and spoiler alert — we win.

Carl’s “fake football game” gave us a good laugh and a great reminder: things aren’t always what they seem. But when we trust God’s playbook, the outcome is always worth cheering for. 🙌

Sometimes what looks real isn’t — but God’s promises always are — and we win!
