Where Two Shall Agree

Where Two Shall Agree

My sweet husband thrives on fellowship — whether it’s church on Sunday, Bible study during the week, going out to eat with friends or gathering at a house church where 50–75 people crowd in for a meal, music, testimonies, and the joy of being together. For him, the more the merrier!

But really, Jesus was the first to model this when He broke bread with His disciples. Fellowship was never about food alone (though I admit, food does make the memories sweeter). It was about celebrating Him — His life in us and our life in Him.

Scripture says it beautifully: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer… They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.” (Acts 2:42, 46)

And then there’s the power of agreement. Jesus said in Matthew 18:19–20: “If two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” That’s not just a polite promise — that’s a binding agreement.

Maybe it’s my 40+ years in real estate talking, but I can’t help seeing prayer of agreement like a contract. Once signed and sealed, it’s a done deal. When two believers (or a husband and wife) join hands and pray, God Himself is the third signature on the line. That’s a contract with eternal backing!

Of course, the enemy does everything possible to push us into dis-agreement. He knows if he can divide us, he can discourage us. But when couples, families, or friends humble themselves, lay down pride, and come together in prayerful agreement, mountains move, rivers part, and heaven’s resources are released.

So let’s live as “agree-ers,” not “arguers.” Let’s watch God use our prayers of agreement to heal, provide, and transform. Because nothing — absolutely nothing — is impossible when two gather in His name and agree.
