Why We Call It Good Friday
It doesn’t feel “good” at first glance.
It was the darkest day in human history. The Savior of the world was betrayed by a kiss, dragged through mock trials, falsely accused, brutally beaten, and humiliated.
A crown of thorns was pressed into His head, His back whipped with metal-laced cords. He was nailed to a cross — spikes through flesh — and hung between two criminals like He was one of them.
And yet… we call it Good Friday.
Why?
Because in that unbearable moment of pain and injustice, Jesus was carrying out the greatest act of love the world has ever known. He bore our sin. He took our place. He opened the door of heaven for all who would believe.
We call it good because He called it finished.
Not “I am finished,” but “It is finished.” The debt was paid. The veil was torn. The enemy was defeated. Hope broke through the horror.
What man meant for evil, God used for redemption.
The cross wasn’t the end — it was the beginning of our freedom.
And here’s the part that brings me to my knees: He did it willingly. He saw our faces. He knew our messes. And still, He went.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
He forgave us before we ever thought to ask. He loved us before we ever learned to love Him back.
So yes, though it’s hard to fathom — this is a good GOOD Friday.
Good because His pain became our peace.
Good because His wounds became our healing.
Good because His death opened the way to everlasting life.
And just as the sun dipped behind a dark sky that day — Sunday was coming.
Hallelujah for Good Friday!
A Note from My Heart to Yours:
Dear friends,
If your heart feels heavy today, know this: Jesus understands. He’s been there. And He didn’t just carry His Cross — He carried you. That’s the kind of Savior we celebrate. And while Friday held a cross — Sunday holds a resurrection. Hang on. Hope lives.
With all my heart — if you have not — please ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior on this day that He gave His all for you and me. With my love and His……Donna and Jesus
