Your Husband’s Expired

Your Husband’s Expired

Travel always comes with surprises. Some delightful… others? Not so much.

We were making our way through TSA, confident with my TSA pass and Carl’s Global Entry pass. But the TSA agent looked up and said, “These aren’t valid.” What?

So, off we trudged to the other line — the one where arms go up and our dignity quietly slips away.

And just when I thought we’d cleared the chaos, I got flagged. An agent pulled my carry-on aside like it had just committed a federal offense. What could it be? OH NO — the water bottle! That sneaky little stowaway I had every intention of drinking before we got to the airport. Rookie mistake.

We finally made it to the gate. I darted to the restroom, while Carl wandered over to the airline desk and asked why our trusted passes weren’t accepted.

The agent checked Carl’s credentials and told him, “Well, sir… your Global Entry expired last year.” Now that’s on his “to-do” list when we get home.

Then came my moment. I walked up to the agent’s desk and she announced:

“Your husband’s expired.” I froze. What? Be still my heart! But, I turned toward the waiting area — and there he was, alive and upright, scrolling on his phone like nothing had happened.

Nope, not that kind of expired. Just his Global Entry. Whew!
We had a big laugh out loud — but it got me thinking… isn’t that how life feels sometimes? Like we’ve passed our prime. We’ve missed our moment. We’ve “expired” from usefulness. But that’s not how God sees it.

If we wake up today with breath in our lungs – we’re not done! Our purpose hasn’t expired. Our assignment hasn’t been canceled.

Philippians 1:6 says: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” That means there’s still more to be written. And Psalm 92:14, says, “They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green.”

So, let’s not believe the lie that our best days are behind us. If we’re still here, then God still has plans for us — good ones! (Jeremiah 29:11 – “Oh the plans God has for you…”)

Carl is still — very much with us. Expired or not — he’s going places. And so are you.

Newsflash: I haven’t expired either. My TSA pass is also expired – so I’ll renew asap! And for all of us – if we’re still breathing – we’re still called!
