Got Mountains? Then Scale Them!

Got Mountains? Then Scale Them!

I’m back home in my sweet spot. Actually, wherever I am, I call it my sweet spot – because wherever I go, God is right there with me. Even in the doctor’s office.

The day before leaving for Cabo, I had my annual physical check-up. Ugh! Lots of questions from my doc and then, she warned me about STDs being as prevalent in older people as younger people. I wonder: “Is it just me or does she say that to all her ‘senior’ patients?'” She says: “You would be surprised how many “seniors” I treat for STD! I assured her: “That’s NOT me!” At the end of the check-up, she advised me it is time for a bone density test and make a quick trip to the lab for some bloodwork. My insurance requires it.

Next day after my return from Cabo, I headed to the clinic. When they took me back to the lab, I saw the lab technician’s clipboard that included a long list of what I thought were injections. WHAT? But very quickly the technician assured me that she was just drawing blood samples to test for any health conditions. Phew! What a relief that was! I was making a mountain out of a molehill! And thank God, she was a great blood-drawer because, bada bing bada boom — I donated four vials in just moments.

That reminds me of the mountain in Cabo that I was concerned about climbing. My legs had not been at their healthiest place because of a recent fall and previous hamstring injury. But when we made it to that mountain, the paths to the top were easy-peasy. It wasn’t a mole hill but I sure made it bigger than it was.

How many times do we anticipate the worst – like a long, boring drive somewhere, but the drive became a blessing because of great conversation or great music we were listening to. Or, how about that meeting we’re dreading, and at that meeting, we hear words of truth and enlightenment that alters the course of our lives.

Matthew 17:20 says “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Sometimes “mountains” might be God’s design to help us become and achieve what He created us to be and do. Everything we encounter is part of the indescribable love He has for us.

Our sovereign God wants us to scale those mountains for a “mountain-top experience” where we receive divine revelation. His revelation is always intended to grow our faith, strengthen our resolve, and equip us to take on any mountain that may be standing in our way.

As I was writing this blog, I thought about how God assures us He is always there for us, as close as our next breath. But it is up to us to call upon Him. When we do, we’ll find Him there. Even though it’s an old secular song, these might be God’s words to us today:

“There ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no valley low enough
Ain’t no river wide enough
To keep ME from getting to you.

If you need ME, call me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Just call MY name
I’ll be there in a hurry
You don’t have to worry.

Remember the day
I set you free
I told you
You could always count on me
From that day on I made a vow
I’ll be there when you want ME
Some way, somehow.”
