Got Thirst? Good Fluid Indicator

Got Thirst? Good Fluid Indicator

It isn’t my first time to experience the Austin heat. I remember last year chasing chickens back into their pen at my children’s ranch during this Austin heat. I thought I was about to have a heat stroke by the time I rounded them all up. But, that was simply a try-out for the real deal that I’m experiencing now. Now, I’m at home in Austin…..and, Lord, have mercy! The heat showed up!

I actually think I had heat exhaustion after watching my grandson play two baseball games on Saturday. Though we covered ourselves with umbrellas and drank lots of water, we were on metal stands which made the heat even hotter. Afterwards, I went home, took a shower and slept for eight hours. I never sleep that long.

I’m keeping my little grand-dog again for a few days. I’ve been told to not let him walk on the scorching asphalt because if we can’t walk barefoot on it, neither can he. Now, is when I remember the freeze, the snow and the ice that Austin suffered on February 15th. But fast forward to today….summer has landed!

Thank goodness, God wired us with indicators to tell us when enough is enough. In fact, we have a built in “low-fluid indicator.” That’s why I carry a bottled water or my Yeti mug of ice water to hydrate because my “thirst” indicator tells me so. When the fluid level gets low, the signals flare. Dry mouth. Achy head. Weak knees. Dizziness. If we deprive our bodies of fluid, our bodies will tell us.

God also wired us with a built in “low-spiritual fluid indicator”. If we deprive our souls of spiritual water, the signals will flare. Heavy hearted, sad, weary, depressed, grumpy, fearful, anxious, envious, moody, angry. If we deprive ourselves of spiritual fluid, our souls will tell us. In John 4:13-14, Jesus says, “Anyone who drinks this (natural) water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

Jesus offers living water that will permanently satisfy our thirst. If we feel unsatisfied with our lives, that’s called spiritual thirst. And the only One who can quench that thirst is the One who said, “I thirst.” Jesus thirsted on the cross so we don’t have to thirst. He paid for what we don’t have to pay for and never be thirsty again.

It’s time to go to the “fountain” that never runs dry. That’s where we’ll be refreshed, restored, rejuvenated and replenished. Not only will we know and feel the difference, others will know that we’ve been “hanging out at the “fountain” again. They’ll want to drink at the fountain to get their “fluids” refilled, too.
