Let’s Hold Hands

Let’s Hold Hands

I am convinced that the enemy of our souls was the instigator of Covid. That’s a no brainer. He was tactical in keeping us isolated from each other and from reaching out and touching each other. How difficult that has been for those of us who are huggers and hand-shakers!

After working out yesterday morning, I saw a friend coming toward me. She was taking her dog out for a walk. She had on a mask. She has Covid. She contracted it from her husband. I couldn’t hold her hand, but from a distance, I could still take the time to pray for my friend’s speedy recovery. Dumb devil. He shows up and we show up on behalf of our God!

I think of those who need to be touched, to be caressed, to shake the hand of a friend, to feel accepted and appreciated. “Let’s join hands” is a phrase we don’t hear much these days.

This blog isn’t to discourage hand holding or hugging. Each one of us need to use our faith and put on the “whole armor of God” each day anyway – regardless of health issues. But, in case you need your hand held today, I’m going to give you the best news ever!

I am reminded of King David’s words: “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your HAND against the wrath of my enemies, and Your RIGHT HAND will save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of Your HANDS.” Psalm 138:7-8.

That scripture is about the Lord’s goodness to the faithful. I see how His hands are reaching out to His children — you and me. God is our relief-provider.

We lived in Tulsa, OK for over 40 years. The most treasured landmark there are those mammoth “healing” hands located at the entrance of Oral Roberts University. I appreciated seeing those hands every time I drove by them. Those formidable bronze hands stand 60 feet high and weigh 30 tons. Casting done in Juarez, Mexico in 1980, they are the largest bronze sculpture in the world.

Those hands remain a strong representation of the power of medical science and God’s supernatural healing power working together to bring restoration to people’s bodies and minds.

Our Heavenly Father really does have mighty big hands. How big are they? His hands are so big He holds the whole world in them! God’s hands are big enough to bless us. Jesus often touched people to bless them. He does the same for you and me. “The Lord will hold you in His hand for all to see a splendid crown in the hand of God.” (Isaiah 62:3)

In Heaven, the only scars will be on Jesus. God will never forget us because He has a constant reminder in Jesus’ nail-scarred hands. The Bible says, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion for the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” (Isaiah 49:15-16)

The “Praying Hands” statute reminded me of God’s purpose for my own hands — to type this blog each day to share His love and light — for my own praying hands to seek Him with my whole heart — for it is in my seeking,,,..that I find the perfect, tender and loving hands of God.

Maybe holding hands and reaching out to touch someone with God’s love is still questionable – it doesn’t keep us from being light bearers AND it doesn’t keep us from God’s mighty hands touching us!

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.'” Isaiah 41:13
