Our Minds Matter – and that Might include a Reboot
Ever feel like your brain is stuck buffering?
I get it. Our minds are a lot like computers — except with a whole lot more tabs open! Guilty – even as I type this blog – I have ten tabs open!
We upload thoughts, download memories, run endless mental “programs” like grocery lists, birthdays, and “Did I leave my curling iron on?” moments.
And just like a computer, when our minds get overloaded, performance lags. We forget names, misplace keys, or walk into a room and wonder, “Why am I here?” Yep! That’s me!
Yesterday a friend sighed after a memory lapse and said, “I hate growing old!” I had to laugh. I don’t mind the growing old part – but I sure am noticing that remembering names is not my forte’ these days.
Maybe it’s not age as much as it is our full hard drive!
Think of everything our minds have stored over a lifetime. No wonder we slow down — we’re running on decades of input!
But here’s the good news: God gave us these incredible processors, and He’s not done using them. Scientists say the human brain can store the equivalent of 100 trillion thoughts. Trillion — with a “T”! Now that’s some serious memory.
And God didn’t leave us without instructions. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Translation? Be choosy. We wouldn’t invite a virus into our computer — so we shouldn’t entertain toxic thoughts either. Garbage in, garbage out.
When life gets noisy and fear creeps in, it’s time for a mental reboot. Shut it down. Clear the clutter. Scan for lies. And let the Holy Spirit install peace, hope, and truth. One of my biggest “aha” moments? Realizing I can choose my thoughts. I can think on purpose.
Proverbs 23:7 reminds us: “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Want peace? Think peace. Isaiah 26:3 promises, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”
So yes, our minds matter. Let’s guard them like a secure login, recharge at our Sunday worship “charging station,” and remember — we have the power to delete anything that doesn’t belong.
Let’s clear the clutter. Reboot with truth. Guard it like a fortress. Let peace be our default setting. Isaiah 26:3.
Now… where is my phone?
