The Right GPS Sytem
Once upon a time I was “directionally challenged”. I remember driving in and out of neighborhoods, off highways and byways, and spending way more time driving than I should have. It didn’t take much for me to get lost. Aw! But now those days are long gone since the advent of our GPS (Global Positioning System).
In my case, my GPS system aka navigation system is a program on my phone called WAZE. Oh, how I love and appreciate my WAZE pal. I chose a man’s voice to tell me what to do and he has saved me much time, energy, and mental anguish! He is one of my best friends!
I also know what it is to be “directionally challenged” in life. I don’t like to admit it, but I don’t always seek direction and guidance from significant people in my life. (You know who you are!) Sometimes I want to do it MY WAY and I ignore their wise counsel. After all I have the “goods” upstairs, or at least I think I do!
The next thing I know, doing it my way gets me lost or completely opposite of where I should be. If I had taken their advice and wise counsel, I might have avoided the “detours” and the anxiety and the “traffic” in my head.
And, what’s even more regrettable, are the times of guidance I need from God, and I ignore Him. How could I NOT listen for His voice on His GPS (God’s Positioning System), especially since His directions never change.
He puts up with me “wanting it MY way”, and faithfully, continues to point me in the right direction. He has a plan for my life, and no matter what I might do to sabotage it, He keeps turning me around to head back in the right direction again.
Psalm 23:3 says “…He guides me along right paths…” God will always show us the way to go if we’ll look to Him and trust Him.
Some navigation systems need updating and occasionally, they may get it wrong or take us off course. God NEVER needs updating. He never changes and never gets it wrong. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Much like our navigations systems, whenever we get off course, God is faithful to “recalculate” and get us back on the correct course or path.
God will always meet us where we are, even when we mess up. It’s like He says “OK, you took the wrong road…let’s get you back on the right one.” He’ll do it every time, again and again, if we look to Him. The truth is we are never so far off course that God can’t get us back on the right path.
If we want to get to our destination, we need to start humbling ourselves, trusting in God, and looking to our GPS (God Positioning System) for direction and guidance. “Please proceed to the highlighted route…”
