What Feat are You Attempting?

It was Carl’s pick to see George Clooney’s “Boys in a Boat” movie. The true to life movie is based on the University of Washington’s junior varsity rowing team making it all the way to the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

The U.S. eight-man rowing team had won every gold medal since 1920, but this group of boys were at a disadvantage. Unlike the prestigious Ivy League squads, the Huskies were mostly guys who rowed just to pay for school. They were underdogs to the max.

They barely had their budget covered to make it at all. It’s a feel-good movie, but If you want to read about the true story, go to: https://magazine.washington.edu/feature/at-1936-olympic-games-uw-crew-pulled-together-to-make-history/ What a feat they conquered!

Speaking of “Boys in a Boat” and being at a disadvantage, can we imagine what Noah must have felt like at the end of each day after toiling to build the ark? And think about those fifty-five to seventy years of days it took to build it. He had every right to be weary, worn, AND wimpy.

Putting out my little Noah’s Two by Two animals on my doorway’s shelf sparked the idea for this blog! What stands out to me from the story of Noah and the ark were these words: “And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.” (Genesis 7:5) When God told him to build a boat, he built it and an entire generation was saved.

Our own voice of reason might ask, “What good is a boat with no water?” And that voice of reason might just be what has kept us from achieving and succeeding in many areas of life.

How many times have we wished we had acted on something we heard? How many times did a creative idea come, and we cast it aside as nonsense……to only later hear that someone developed a new product or service that was just like we had thought.

What if we were strongly being impressed to step out in faith on a great opportunity or new job….and we just kept closing our ears to what might be God’s voice?

This blog today is meant to be that cheerleader I wrote about a couple of days ago. Why not let this be YOUR year of boldly stepping out and taking some risks to go to a new level?

Aw! Obeying those nudges, those “I think I can” attitudes, and God’s tender voice calling us to accept His call. The Lord is gracious and merciful. He gives us more chances to obey. So why don’t we start today?

Maybe He’ll ask us to show love to someone we don’t normally give the time of day to or maybe He’ll ask us to trust Him completely in the middle of our greatest storm.

Or maybe He’ll ask us to build a boat in the middle of the desert. Whatever it is, don’t question Him. Be a risk taker – live the dream! We just might revolutionize and save a generation….let’s JUST DO IT!!!
