A Better World Starts with You and Me

A Better World Starts with You and Me

The pessimist grumbles, “I could make a better world than this.”
But the optimist confidently sings, “Go for it! That’s why God put you here!”

It’s true. We’re not here just to take up space. God placed us on this earth, in this time, to make a difference. And while we can’t do everything, we can all do something that matters.

Maybe it’s as simple as volunteering, giving to a local charity, or sharing a meal with someone who’s homebound. Sometimes, it’s paying attention to the little things—like putting the grocery cart back where it belongs or picking up trash on the side of the road.

The truth is, making the world better doesn’t always require grand gestures. Small, thoughtful actions create ripples that can lead to waves of change. Just think what might happen if we all committed to one small act of kindness each day? A smile at the grocery store, a word of encouragement to a coworker, or letting someone go ahead of you in line.  These small acts of love reflect the heart of Christ in ways we may never fully realize.

Want to do even more? You can. Donate clothes to the Goodwill or Salvation Army or the Vincentian Family Center where I serve — especially the ones you haven’t worn in years. Or take a friend to their doctor’s appointment when they’re feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is simply our presence. Hold a hand. Listen. Offer a prayer. Remind someone they are not alone.

When we start seeing these moments as opportunities to share God’s love, our perspective shifts. Suddenly, every day is full of chances to bring a little more light into the world. And here’s the best part: the ripple effect of your kindness will inspire others to do the same.

So, are you feeling motivated? Great! That’s exactly what this world needs: more people like you and me, willing to step up, make a difference, and shine God’s light wherever we can.

Because a better world starts right here—with you and me.
